On the way home.

I'm back home again after visiting relatives for Christmas.  So, what do I consider the highlights of the trip?

Certainly not the knitting, I got nothing of consequence done.  What I didn't leave at home (i.e. my current project bag - arghh!!), didn't have the correct needles for (necessitating a shopping trip), I just wasn't in the mood for.  I really wanted to cast on my lace shawl in peace and quiet but it just didn't happen.

I did get some of the Hourglass Cardigan finished.  I was hoping to get up to working on the sleeves but didn't quite make it.  It was worth it though, as I spent time with my nieces and I really don't see them enough.

And what did we do?

Well one day we went to the zoo. It had been literally years since I'd been.

We took the ferry over the harbour (no photos on the ferry itself as it was only a 10 minute trip and we were sitting inside both times).  Personally I think it is fantastic that Taronga Zoo sits right on the harbour and you can get a ferry there from the CBD.

What a view! What a day!

(I had real trouble deciding which pictures to include above)

We managed to see most of what each of us wanted to (although the platypus was hiding when I went through.  He came out for my nieces but even if I'd seen him I wouldn't have been able to take a photo unfortunately).

Some of the other activities were (naturallly) swimming and movies.  I was most definitely a spectator for the swimming but really enjoyed one of the movies.  Iniitally we went to see The Voyage of the Dawn Treader which was an alright movie but:
1. I wasn't the target audience so I found it a touch annoying in places
2. I know the book too well and although objectively I can admit that the changes they made served to make the movie flow more smoothly, I still didn't really like some of them.

The second movie we saw however was *much* more my thing.  I wanted to get my nieces out of the house to give my sister a chance to get some things done so the three of us went along to Megamind in 3D (yes, we splurged and I'm really glad we did.  This was a movie which I think most definitely deserved to be seen in 3D).  It was a heap of fun and exactly what I was in the mood for.  I think this will go on my mental 'to buy when you see it' list so I can watch it as the whim strikes me.

The final thing we did together was see the fireworks on Sydney Harbour (9pm show).  The shots of the fireworks themselves didn't turn out the best on my camera but here's an idea.

I'm home again now and dealing with the disorder which magically accumulates when there's no-one in the house.(along with getting excited for the Winter 2011 term for the HPKCHC - I'll put it in a separate post)
